Vanity Above the Vanity

Everytime I come across images of pictures walls on Pinterest like this:

I immediately start to salivate (is it weird that I just said interior decorating makes me drool?) and parade around the house looking for opportunities to recreate the look. That's when I realize I don't want pictures of pine cones or boat docks or other abstract things taking up a wall but if I were to put up personal pictures, it would appear too much like a shrine of sorts. So I decided to take a few of my favorite snapshots from our engagement pics and hang them above our sinks. Since the only traffic the master bathroom sees consists of Jorts and me, I reasoned that it was perfectly acceptable to have blown up pictures of us as decor.

pictures: Costco, frames: Ikea

They may be the result of faulty reasoning.
They may be a far cry from the Pottery Barn catalog.
But that's ok because those pictures sure do make me smile every morning. :)
Sorry for the extra cheddar globbed onto the end of this already boring post.
Good night and a pleasant tomorrow.

Black is such a strong word

For the past 4 years I've sufferred from a condition that causes me to wake up at an ungodly hour the day after Thanksgiving to brave the crowds of other zombie-like creatures in search of TV's, computers or plush bath towels at unvelievable prices. I didn't even let a little thing like being almost 9 mo preggo stop me last year. (I was secretly hoping all that walking around would induce labor. Fail.) You may think I'm cray cray but the early morning adventures have always ended successfully. I get all my Christmas shopping done, and then some, with money left to spare.

This year I have one single mission. That is to get my hands on these beauties:

Not only are they HALF off but they come in one of my fav colors. Best Buy opens their doors at 5 am but I've heard stories of lines forming HOURS in advance. They also have a great system in place where they hand out tickets Willy Wonka style on a first come, first serve basis. According to their website:

Ticketing will help to ensure the safety of both Best Buy customers and employees when the stores open.

Which basically means: we know you blood thirsty animals will scratch, claw & trample your way to a screaming deal so this is our attempt at minimzing casualties. A part of me is hoping that since a lot of merchants had early Black Fridays events, the demand won't be as high. So here's my gameplan: arrive at the battle grounds at 4 am. If I'm able to score a golden ticket for my cherry lovelies, mission accomplished. If my hopes are crushed by people who are crazier than me and get there earlier then I'll try my luck at Sears.

May the best man win.

Lessons Learned

After a grueling weekend of moving, there are several things I've learned:
  1. Always label any kind of electrical components with what items they belong to. Otherwise you'll end up with a Rubbermaid container filled with miscellaneous cords that you throw away only to realize a week later that you now have no way of charging your camera.
  2. NEVER pack any bathroom toiletries along with towels, otherwise you'll be forced to do 3 loads of towels in the event a bottle of lotion leaks.
  3. Schedule at least 2 days of overlap in utilities so that you're not stuck moving with no light or A/C.
  4. Plan ahead of time so that you have separate boxes of things you'll need ASAP instead of having to go days while desperately searching for the boxes containing them, i.e. clean underware, clean sheets, clean towels (see #2), toothbrushes, phone charger...
  5. Wrap everything breakable in newspaper or bubble wrap no matter how gently you plan on moving it.
P.S. Happy birfday to my old college roomie Jessica. If I lived closer I would make you a birthday bowl of spicy Korean ramen noodles.
