Grrs and Yays Preggo Edition

I'm nearing the 24 week mark and this pregnancy is zooming by.
A smidgen too quickly for my liking.
With H, I managed to take enough belly pics to make quite an impressive little flip book.
However, this time around, I have a weak collection of snapshots that includes me holding a sorry looking lime and the fuzzy mess I posted here.

So I will be dedicating this edition of grrs and yays to some of the exciting new developments in this pregnancy so Baby Bean doesn't feel left out.

Grrs...
  • 3 words: puffy, sausage, fingers
  • Not being able to sleep on my tummy anymore.
  • Thanks to my body's surging levels of melanin, my armpits are getting darker and darker by the day. Not my face or neck or other parts of the body normal pregnant women get melasma, no. I get it in the most awkward yet visible place one could imagine. Avoid wearing sleeveless shirts, you say? Yea, I'd like to see you try that in 110 degree weather. Gives the saying "Buckwheat in a headlock" a whole other meaning.

    Yay!
  • Having enough room in our bed to sleep with all 4 full-length body pillows.
  • Placing the remote on my belly and watching it jump aruond. I could do that for hours.
  • H saying, "Baby in mommy's tummy" and giving it a smooch
  • Having the door opened for me everywhere I go by perfect strangers.
  • After comparing my weight gain thus far with my 1st pregnancy, it looks like I just might gain the recommended amount rather than the 55 lbs I packed on with H. (I swear I had an out-of-body experience when I saw the scale push 200 lbs)

Grrs and Yays

I know I haven't done one of these in a while and there will only be one of each but they're both doozies.

Yay!
  • After some more digging around on my external hard drive....I FOUND ALL OF OUR PICS! In an effort to declutter some of the things before copying them back over to our computer, I drilled down to each folder and amazingly found all of our pictures in a folder within a folder within a folder. Thank you Lord!
Grr...
  • Well, it's more like Ewww than Grrr but it finally happened. Our baby had a poop incident. I don't mean a blow out or diarrhea. I mean we found him this morning with poo EVERYWHERE. On his jammies, on his sheets, and worst of all, in his hands. We usually wait 30-45 mins after he first stirs in the morning before going to get him so he can have some "me" time. H usually spends it by rolling around and talking to himself, (one of these days I need to record what we get to hear over the monitor. It's the cutest thing ever.) but today he apparently woke up to a full diaper and wanted to know what was weighing him down When he found the jackpot, he proceded to smear it all over his crib. The t-shirt with a monkey on it that says, "I fling poo" now has a whole other meaning.

Grrs and Yays...Video Edition

No I didn't record myself reciting or acting out my grrrs and yays. I just wanted to give a disclaimer of the video content. Sorry if you were misled by the title. Maybe one day I'll post a video tutorial like the rest of the blogging pros. Reach for the stars is my motto.

Grrrr....
  • Against my better judgement, I recently switched up my nighttime moisturizer and now my skin is crankier than me when I'm hungry (and that's unnessarily cranky). I've been looking a lot like this favorite from the Simpsons lately:
  • Getting up to take my basal temperature and realizing I have to pee. Simply sticking a thermometer in my mouth until it beeps ain't no thang but a chicken wang but actually having to get up to use the potty is no bueno. I'll tell you why. It's not b/c I have trouble falling back asleep. In fact, I think I'm borderline Narcoleptic b/c I can sleep anytime, anywhere. The problem is that even though I get to sleep another couple of hours, that short moment of getting out of bed makes me feel as if I was robbed of that time. It's just not the same as sleeping all the way through.
  • Forgetting that today was Friday and finishing the last few pieces of maple sausage that H didn't eat for breakfast this morning. Shame, shame, know my name.

Yay!
  • These 2 gems I found on the camera that showed me what really goes on while mommy is out.

  • The yumminess we had for dinner last night: balsamic roasted chicken, garlic rosemary 'taters & lemon panko covered string beans with almonds. The most important thing I've learned from watching The Food Network is how to dress up the title of your dish so that it sounds much fancier than chicken, potatoes and green beans.
  • H's monster calves overflowing from the top of his socks.
  • The faces H makes when you say "sour."
  • Watching Pocoyo w/ my little man before leaving for work this morning.
  • I have twice as many yays than grrs.

Grrs and Yays

Grrr....

  • Speed walking for roughly 3 miles from my car to the front door of my building, running up 4 flights of stairs then breaking out into a light jog for the last few hundred feet so that I can make it to my desk in time to call in to my 8 am meeting...only to realize I left my laptop in the trunk of my car.
  • After the excitement of saving $$ from getting diapers by following this helpful post we quickly realized that Pampers don't stand a chance against H's incredibly active bladder overnight. It was Matt's turn to get the baby in the morning and when he went to change H's diaper, he found these crystal looking things all over his belly. Instead of coming to the rational conclusion that the diaper was falling apart from the gallon of baby pee that it had to hold, he became frantic with the idea that our son had develped a mutant power to "pee ice chunks." Back to Costco diapers for this little man.
  • Sitting on putty. Not only does it take EONS to get the stuff off but it leaves a greasy stain behind that even Goo Gone can't get rid of.
  • Getting tonsillitis. (Warning: Do NOT google search for images or you might just throw up a little in your mouth.) Throat sprays don't work and it's a painful reminder of exactly how many times I tend to swallow in a day. If only spitting was socially acceptable. Then I wouldn't have to wince and cry out in pain every 30 seconds. My doc said that if I get tonsilitis more than 5 or 6 times a year, only then would it be worth it to get my tonsils taken out this late in life. But since I only have to endure this excruciating, mind-numbing (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little...or maybe I'm not. This ish hurts), a couple of times a year, I should just suck it up and quit being a baby.
Yay!
  • This morning I pointed to a picture of H and asked him who it was. He gave me his usual big, chipped-tooth smile and answered, "Me!"
  • Day 4 on my new job and so far there have been baked goods and candy at a nearby cubicle every day. This might be a grr for my girlish figure but it's a yay for my mouth!
  • I get to visit my friend Terry and her newborn son on Sunday. Can't wait to hold that little baby and take a big whiff of his baby smell. (Ok this sounds a little weird but I know some of you know what I'm talking about.)
  • Super excited for the Diocesan Women's Conference here in Phoenix that's coming up in a couple weeks! Though I have some wonderful girlfriends in my life, I am definitely lacking close relationships with fellow Catholic women (other than my sensational sister). There is a mom's group at my parish but they meet at times that are not condusive to a working mommy so I haven't been able to attend any of the functions. This conference is defintely an answer to my prayers!

Grrrs and Yays

Grrr...
  • People at work with whom you are acquainted (whether it be from a class or a project or multiple elevator rides together) yet they pretend they have no idea who you are upon passing in the hallways. You don't have to stop and give me a rundown of your week or anything but it wouldn't kill you to smile once in a while if we make eye contact!
  • When my cowlick will not behave no matter how much heat or product I throw at it causing the left side of my bangs to literally stick straight out from my forehead at a 90 degree angle despite the law of gravity. I wish I had a pic to show this anomaly but my hair decided to mind its manners today.
  • When I take out 1 or 2 girl scout cookies, place them on a small plate (to make it look like more than it is) then eat them really slowly in an attempt to practice moderation...only to end up eating half the box anyway.
  • After having my platform bed for 5 years and counting, I STILL kick the heck out of the sharp corner once in a while when I get up to pee in the middle of the night. I then do a little something like this. (skip to 0:20 mark)
Yay!
  • The fruit of my loins is walking!!! After 14 long months (and many sleepless nights for Matt), my little darling H took his first unassisted steps while at the park last Saturday morning. Though it looks more like a drunken stumble (maybe we should lay off the baby Tylenol for a while...kidding) it's still one of the most amazing milestones to date.
  • Love that Buddha belly
  • While we're on the brag-about-your-baby train, Hew's newest (and my favorite) addition to his bag-o-tricks is to pray on command. Though he's still a while's away from being able to recite the Hail Mary by memory he's got the putting his hands together when you say "Amen" down pat. When we say the Lord's Prayer before bedtime, he'll reach up to the crucifix in his room. Makes me tear up everytime.
  • T-minus 7 days until our first family vacation to Portland!
Happy Jerse-day y'all!

Grrs and Yays

Grrr...
  • Drivers who don't know the rules of a stop sign. Just because I actually obey traffic laws and come to a complete stop does NOT give you the right away.
  • People who use FB or their blogs for bragging and little else. I know I may be guilty of it sometimes (usually when it comes to my little H) but if I get obnoxious with it, please be a true friend and call me out on it. Keep it real.
  • The fact that our fridge has started to make the most IRRITATING noise ever and I can't figure out where it's coming from. It's a Samsung and only a few years old. I must say I'm very disappointed in my Korean appliance.
  • Weeds. You would think that in a climate as dry as AZ, plant life would have a hard time growing? Not these little sh*ts.
  • This is my last week of vacation. :(
Yays
  • Christmas is only 4 days away!
  • H had his 1 year wellness check today and it went very well. He's 24 lbs, 31.5 in long & his head is in the 90th percentile (gets it from his momma). The 4 shots he had to get belong in the Grr section.
  • I tried out a wavy hair tutorial and it turned out pretty good! (I attempted to take a pic to post but my taking-a-picture-of-the-back-of-my-head skills are lacking)
I realize I have more Grrs than Yays. I'll try to work on that.
